AI companion

An AI mental health assistant that knows what it isn't

An AI assistant cannot diagnose you, cannot prescribe, and should never pretend to be a therapist. What it can do is be available at 2am, in your language, without an appointment or a judgement.

That gap matters in India, where there are roughly three mental-health professionals per hundred thousand people. Most distress never reaches a professional at all.

  • 10 Indian languages
  • Crisis detection built in
  • Private by default
  • Clear AI disclosure

What people use it for

  • Thinking out loud after a hard day, without burdening a friend
  • Working out what they are actually feeling before naming it to anyone
  • Preparing for a difficult conversation with family or a manager
  • Getting through a restless night without spiralling
  • Deciding whether what they are experiencing warrants professional help

The safety design

  1. 1

    Explicit about being AI

The companion identifies itself as AI, never claims clinical credentials, and does not offer diagnoses or medication advice.

  2. 2

Crisis language triggers a human route

When risk indicators appear, the conversation surfaces India-specific 24×7 helplines immediately rather than continuing as normal.

  3. 3

    Escalation is always visible

Verified therapists, trained listeners and moderated peer circles are one tap away from every conversation, so the AI is a starting point rather than a dead end.

What happens to what you type

Conversations are encrypted at rest and tied to your account only. They are not sold, not shared with employers, and not shown to experts.

You can export or delete your history at any time from the Privacy Center. Our AI transparency page sets out exactly which models are used and for what.

Where an AI assistant stops being enough

If symptoms have persisted for weeks, if functioning has dropped, or if there are thoughts of self-harm, a human professional is the right next step — and the companion will say so.

Think of it as the layer that keeps you company between the moment something starts and the moment you decide to get help, not as a replacement for that help.

AI companion: common questions

Is an AI mental health assistant safe?
It is safe when it is honest about its limits, detects crisis language, and routes to humans. Saantvana's companion does all three, and every conversation carries a visible AI disclosure.
Can it replace therapy?
No, and it does not try to. It offers reflective conversation and psychoeducation, and points you toward verified professionals when what you need is treatment.
Which languages does it speak?
English, Hindi, Malayalam, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, Marathi, Bengali, Gujarati and Punjabi — including the switching between languages that most Indians actually do mid-sentence.
Does it cost anything?
Companion conversations and validated assessments are free. You only pay when you choose to book a session with a verified expert, at the fee published on their profile.
