EAP

An Employee Assistance Programme people actually use

Traditional EAPs in India report utilisation in low single digits. The programme exists, the helpline number is on the intranet, and almost nobody rings it.

The failure is rarely the counselling. It is the front door: a phone number, in English, during office hours, that feels one step away from HR finding out.

  • Digital-first access
  • 10 Indian languages
  • Anonymised reporting
  • Crisis escalation protocol

Why traditional EAP utilisation stays low

  • Access starts with a phone call, which is the highest-friction option for a distressed person
  • Support is English-first in a workforce that thinks in other languages
  • Employees suspect their manager will hear about it
  • Availability is limited to working hours, when the difficulty is at midnight
  • No visible first step short of committing to counselling

How we structure it differently

  1. 1

A free layer before the counsellor

Companion conversations, validated assessments and guided journeys let someone engage privately for weeks before deciding to book a session. That is what drives real utilisation.

  2. 2

    Booking without a gatekeeper

Employees browse verified experts, see published fees and languages, and book directly. No case manager triage, no explaining themselves twice.

  3. 3

    Reporting that respects the boundary

Employers get uptake, themes and cohort-level wellbeing movement. Never names, never transcripts, never small-cohort numbers that could identify a person.

What the programme covers

Emotional and psychological support is the core: stress, anxiety, low mood, burnout, sleep, relationship difficulty and grief. Employees can also use it for work-specific difficulties like conflict or role change.

Dependants can be included on request, which matters in India where a caregiving load at home is often the actual source of pressure at work.

Measuring whether it works

Utilisation alone is a vanity metric. We report engagement depth, repeat use, and change in validated wellbeing scores across the cohort over time.

Those numbers are what let you defend the programme at budget time, and what tell you early if a particular business unit needs targeted attention.

EAP: common questions

What is a good EAP utilisation rate in India?
Traditional phone-first programmes commonly report 2-5%. Digital-first programmes with a free self-serve layer see substantially higher engagement, because most of that engagement happens before anyone books a session.
Is the EAP confidential?
Yes. No individual usage, content or clinical record is shared with the employer under any circumstances. Reporting is aggregated and suppresses cohorts too small to anonymise.
Can employees include family members?
Dependant access can be added to the panel. Many organisations enable it for spouses and adult dependants, since household stress frequently sits behind workplace distress.
What happens in a crisis?
The employee is shown India-specific 24×7 helplines immediately and, where they consent, connected with a professional urgently. The employer is not notified of an individual crisis event.
